Children's Anatomical Magazine Illustrations

Kids Educational Illustrations
Project Overview
The client (the owner of BAZOOF! and Dreamwave Publishing Inc.) was looking for kid-friendly but educational, approachable, medical illustrations of a liver, lungs, eye, and ear.
My Contributions
I started with sketches and worked in Adobe Illustrator and followed the directors lead, changes were made as needed and final illustrations were made ready for print.
A sketchbook mockup of children friendly medical illustrations to be used for diagrams. Lungs, an eye, the ear canal, and a liver.

The Reason

The Reason

The purpose of these illustrations are to make easy to understand diagrams to help teach kids what the different parts of the organs do. Examples were provided as guidelines for colour, texture and general style. I made a few preliminary illustrations and the client made a few notes. I then took the notes, re-coloured some of the illustrations and provided the finished designs.

The BAZOOF! logo. The B is purple, the A is yellow, the Z is bloo, the first O is green, the second O is orange and the F is red. There's a black checkmark at the end, and an orange with a gradient line underneath.

The Process

Finalization

Once I had gotten my feet wet and knew what the expectations were, I felt more comfortable with illustrating the organs. When researching for the ear, I found there weren't really many medical illustrations with people of colour, so I opted to change that in my illustration. Beyond that everything was pretty straight forward. Before the final illustrations were approved I made sure they were all 300 DPI, CMYK, with the appropriate bleed margins. The lungs illustration has been printed in the quarterly released magazine BAZOOF! (issue #77), and those that haven't will be printed in future issues. If it's needed there will be the opportunity to do other drafts closer to publication.
