The Veganist

Overview

The client was looking for a website refresh and rebrand. They wanted to update to something more user-friendly, eye-catching, and easy to use.

The site was hosted on WordPress, and they wanted to maintain a colour scheme with dark and light greens, and soft brown colours. Royalty free images, and a bunch of copy was needed. The information on the old site needed to be transferred as well.

Along with the info from the previous site, informational pages, a blog with some customization, and an events page was needed.

My Process

I started by calling the client and talking with them to get a better idea of what they were looking for. I took a lot of notes, did a lot of research, and confirmed everything with them via phone.

After I had copied all of the existing information from the old site, I sketched up some ideas for the new site. I discussed the ideas with the client, and I got to work on their WordPress website. I designed everything using provided copy and photos, as well as sourcing royalty free images, and creating copy for new sections.

Later On

A few months after the site had been built the client came back because they had purchased the full Shopify Pro package, and wanted an online portion to their vegan grocery store.

They also needed help moving over their inventory from their old Point of Sale system, to Shopify. So I ended up doing a lot of that, while designing the back end database to be user friendly for them (tagging food items to be easy to search, making product categories and sections, etc.). After getting through that part of the project, I provided copy for each section of the website. Once all of that was tidied up and the client was happy with the work started on the front end of the shop.

I began with laying out their navigation. I designed their Shopify store to be minimalistic, clean and accessible.

At another time they approached me to write some blog articles, and make infographics for one of them.
